Mahi and Avocado Salsa

Fish is a go-to weeknight meal for me because of how quickly it cooks. But, with many “go-to” meals, I feel like I’m often repeating the same recipe over and over again. It can get old. So when I stumbled across a similar recipe (with swordfish and grapefruit), I was inspired to spice up my normal weeknight fish dish.

Spicy Mahi

  • 2 Mahi fillets
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Avocado Salsa

  • 1 orange
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 shallot
  • 1.5 TBSP lime juice
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Chop up the orange and avocado into similar size bite size pieces. Mince the shallot and mix in with the lime juice. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stick in this in a bowl to chill in the fridge to meld the flavors.

Turn on the broiler on your oven. Combine your dry spices and rub down your fish with them. I usually spray the top of mine with a little PAM to help keep the spices in place and to make sure they don’t burn. Stick the fish in your oven for about 9 – 10 minutes.

Top your fish with the avocado salsa and serve! Quick and easy!

Broiling this fish not only cooks it quickly but gives it a nice crust on top. The cool, refreshing taste of the salsa, cuts through the spice of the fish. I chose to switch out the orange for the grapefruit in the original recipe to add a bit of sweetness that I think pairs well with Mahi. But feel free to try your own mix of citrus in this recipe!  (Side note: These would also make delicious tacos!)

Until next time!
